Speech/Language Impairment Matrix

I designed this matrix to be used as a tool if I needed to evaluate a student in order to learn if that student needed assistance in speech or language development within the general education classroom. I have also included a preliminary list of recommended research-based actions if that student is also an English Learner. This matrix will be updated and added to as I continue to develop as an educator, and work with other education professionals, such as Special Education teachers, School Psychologists, and Speech & Language Pathologists.

Differentiated Instruction

In a classroom where all bilingual students are Spanish speakers, including Spanish translations when possible helps introduce new concepts to students. Here is an example of using Spanish translations in a lesson I developed on compound words during my Student Teaching assignment:
