Social Environment
Positive Behavior Tally Tracker
I developed this tool to help students in my Student Teaching classroom receive positive reinforcement when displaying desirable classroom behavior. This tracker is designed to be printed and kept at the desk of all students, or of target students. Each component correlates with a classroom rule I used during my Student Teaching assignment.
Classroom Management: Comparative Study
What I learned from studying several examples of classroom management--particularly when addressing students who were exhibiting difficult or disruptive behaviors.

Does the Google Effect also have consequences for students' social environment and development?
Technology has made education more accessible than ever before. However, is it possible that the more access people have to each other, the fewer social skills? This paper reflects on the Google Effect, and what can happen to social skills when students have an over-reliance on search engines.

Lesson Plan: Third Grade Health
This lesson plan covers the Health Education standards for Grade 3. In this lesson, students will learn how to create a positive social-emotional environment within the classroom. I wrote this lesson to use the "Totally Awesome Teaching Strategies" outlined in the book Comprehensive School Health Education by L. Meeks.

Lesson Plan: Third Grade Social Studies
I developed this lesson plan during my Student Teaching for the third grade class I was assigned to. This lesson helped students begin thinking about communities first with our classroom as a community, then branching out to communities at state, national, and global levels. This lesson contains an assignment where students drew a self portrait to be displayed on a classroom Community Board. Students also wrote about what connected our class to each other as a learning community.
This page is a handy reference to use in order to give parents reliable information about how to assess their student's speech and/or language skills. The practice of inviting parental involvement as much as possible contributes to the social environment of the classroom, since it increases students' chances of receiving valuable support both at school and at home.
